An array of top officials checked in with poultry producers yesterday afternoon (Tues) in Willmar, as avian flu numbers grew to nearly two million birds at 40 sites in 20 Minnesota counties.  Officials emphasize the H-P-A-I outbreak poses a high risk to poultry but low danger to the public.  Governor Tim Walz stresses:

“The food supply is safe.  Get out and buy poultry, turkey.   We got it.  Do that.  That makes a difference.  Eggs — that makes a difference.”

Officials acknowledge producers and farm workers are experiencing emotional stress and emphasize that mental health resources are available 24 hours a day at 833-600-2670, or text FARMSTRESS (one word) to 898211, or e-mail farmstress@state.mn.us
