An Elk River man is charged with two felonies after admitting he threw hundreds of screws on Sherburne County roads during the last two months.
63-year-old Jeffrey Caouette was arrested Monday after a caller reported seeing a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle identified as being involved in the numerous incidents. Caouette told investigators he threw the screws on the road near where he believed his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend lived. As a condition of his bail, Caouette must wear a GPS monitoring device and must stay away from the areas where he threw the screws. It’s possible Caouette may face additional charges.
Authorities have taken more than 200 reports of tires that have been damaged in recent weeks or of screws being found on area roadways.
