Wild rice harvesters are preparing to scout and harvest wild rice this year. The DNR’s Ann Geisen says in some parts of the state rice stands are poor:
“For instance, in Aitken County we have a couple of bright spots a couple of lakes that are looking really great — that would be great to harvest. But a lot of others have short rice or thin rice because of high water and storms.”
Harvesters are allowed to take ripe wild rice each year between August 15th and September 30th.
