A 30-year-old man is arrested in connection with two fires set in Mankato over the weekend. Authorities say Dozeman Charles will be charged with arson after witnesses and public safety officials learned he was caring gas cans around the locations of the fires.
- First, Public Safety was notified of a structure fire at 603 South Fourth Street at 4:37 a.m. Saturday. On arrival, they found the attached carport was on fire, which was spreading to the house. Crews extinguished the fire. The house was vacant. Damages are estimated at $60,000.
- Then at 5:48 a.m., Public Safety responded to a structure fire at 205 Lincoln Street. The fire was contained to breezeway of house and extinguished. There were no injuries. Damages are estimated at $15,000.
Authorities say the investigation will continue as to whether or not Charles targeted the homes or if it was a random attack. The say alcohol was not a factor during his arrest.
