Limited access to medical cannabis in outstate Minnesota could be one reason program participation levels remain flat after five-years. Dr. Jay Westwater, CEO of Minnesota Medical Solutions says there are currently eight dispensing facilities in the state, majority, across the Twin Cities:
“And for some people that means traveling for many hours and often hundreds of miles. And perhaps they will come back for a repeat consult, which is done face-to-face as well. And all of this takes time and money and often times these patients are the least able physically to make those journeys.”
This past legislative session lawmakers approved adding eight more dispensaries. Dr. Westwater hopes this will help with access problems in rural areas. Tomorrow we’ll take a look at what qualifying conditions will be added to the program in July.
