Fire officials in Mankato are asking home and business owners to help make sure they can get to work quickly on putting out winter fires, by adopting the fire hydrant nearest their property.
Fire Commander Don Lehne said, “Shovel that hydrant out, keep it clear of snow. It’s very helpful for the firefighters, it speeds up their time on the scene if they don’t have to spend time shoveling that hydrant, or even locating that hydrant in some cases.”
He added, “We like to see a three-foot path, clear path, all the way around it and have it cleared to the street as well.”
Doing so, Lehne explained, is beneficial to the home and business owners in the event that it’s their property that needs that quick response.
